Be in your meditation space
Be in the center of your head
Be grounded
Say hello to presence of your God

This blog is from a sermon I gave the first church service of this year. It’s about getting present with your God.

Growing up I attended church very regularly, not because I wanted to, but because I had to. It was a given in our family that we all attended church no matter what. I did not really have a concept of God, except the traditional man with a white beard, although I did have a clear concept of Church. Church for me was associated with “I have to”; it was associated with my parents’ work for the church; and it was associated with many levels of resistance and lots of boredom.

I would always look forward to the sermon because it was a big enough chunk of time that I could space out and have my own alternate realities going on. The other parts of the service involved too much standing up and sitting down, singing and so forth, so it wasn’t conducive to really spacing out.

If there is anything you would like to clean out about any religious services you attended growing up, go ahead and do that.

I never felt that “God” had much to do with me.

I never felt that “God” had much to do with me. In reality I never actually thought much about it, and “God” was certainly not personal for me. I went through various phases after I left home – I tried to believe I was an atheist, then an agnostic, but neither of those really worked for me because I didn’t know what I believed. Then I didn’t really care what I believed or didn’t believe. It just didn’t seem very relevant for me.

With other churches there is a lot of theology, so that the church or religion tells you what is appropriate to believe. In a lot of ways that really simplifies things, because you don’t have to get your own information, you just use the information of that particular religion. A lot of people get comfort and certainty in that kind of a church.

I realized I could make God a personal God rather than a church God.

But after a few years of doing church services here, I realized that maybe the concept of God did have something to do with me. I realized that I could make God a personal God rather than a church God. There’s lots of growth and different levels of understanding in uncovering what that means.

Say hello to your journey in relation to God. Validate where your journey began and where you are now. Give yourself permission to grow in your relationship with your God. Say hello to God.

Notice where your “hello” goes. Does it go out there somewhere, or some place closer? Is your God outside of yourself or inside of yourself? Notice if you have a God awareness within yourself.

In Luke 8:16, it says: “No-one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts in under a bed.” Is your communication with God under a bed?

When we had the bad storm a few years ago, a lot of people lost the power in their house. The power in our house was out for about a day and a half. During the day it was ok except that communication was really cut off. The tv didn’t work, the computer didn’t work so there was no email or internet, and the home phone didn’t work. Even the cell phones didn’t work very well because 9 out of 10 cell phone towers had blown over.

At night it was really cold. The heat didn’t work because the electricity was off. Even though we had a gas stove, the oven got lit with an electronic igniter, so the oven wouldn’t turn on either.

That’s what it’s like when your “God-awareness” power is out….

That’s what it’s like when your “God-awareness” power is out, or you’re hiding it under the bed. We can function, but we’re out of communication, we’re cold, and it’s dark. We function, but we don’t function as well as we could.

In Luke, the passage goes on: “No-one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts in under a bed. Instead, he or she puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.”

This is like lining up your communication with God. Your light – your power — is turned on. When your light is turned on, you have that awareness and that power and everyone around you can see it.

Say hello again to your awareness of your communication with your God. This is your lamp and your power shining deep within you, which also emanates outwards.

Say hello to your agreement to have your God communication. This is the new year, so renew that agreement and bring that agreement into present time. Now have that agreement include your body.

Say hello to your grounding which goes into the center of the earth, and say hello to the earth. Say hello to your agreement to live on this planet, which includes having your body. Have your planet-communication agreement come into present time.

Now have your planet-communication agreement and your God-communication agreement say hello to each other. Have them come together and work with each other in present time.

Now say hello to yourself in the center of your head again. Set your energy at permission so that you can have the communication with your God and your planet. Complete. Bend over and balance.

As always, thanks for supporting Psychic Horizons & the Church of Natural Grace with your sustainable giving! It truly makes a difference, both for us and for you.

Best regards,
Rev. Laura Hopper
