Mother’s Day was in May, and Father’s Day is upcoming in June. So happy Parents Days!
It’s a good day to remember your birth into this lifetime. Say hello to your birth, say hello to your mother. You began your physical form in this lifetime through your mother. Be grateful to her for that.
When you were born, you also ended your life as a purely spiritual being, at least for now. I’m sure you had some resistance to that ending, most of us have. It has been said that one of the most difficult times for a spirit is when that spirit is born into a physical body, because everything changes. Another difficult time is when a spirit leaves their body and is again a purely spiritual being. But even though one identity ends, another identity begins. Within every beginning is an ending; within every ending is a beginning.
Many of us have had parents die, or a friend or family member. One of my sisters said when my mother died, “A mother should never die.” I understood exactly what she meant. Recently I knew of another person whose mother died, and she said to me, “Why is this so hard?” And it’s true, it is hard. But for all of those who died, the ending of their physical life was also a beginning of another life. We don’t know what those other lives are, but we do know that there are new adventures for them.
We are recreating ourselves constantly
We are recreating ourselves constantly; we are one big continuum of beginnings and endings. This is really true now. We have had to re-create how we shop, how we socialize – mostly not socializing — , how we greet each other, how we relate to money. We get anxious about things we’re not normally anxious about, like going grocery shopping. For some of us, our identity depended on our social activities, or on our job, or on getting together with family. All of that is different, so we’ve had to re-create ourselves.
Many people are resistant to change, because it can be hard, or we think it’s hard. That’s why sometimes the program at Psychic Horizons seems difficult, because it means change. Every time you de-energize a picture or pull out a cord that’s been there for a long time, that’s a change, a shift of identity, even if it’s subtle. That’s an ending of something and a new beginning of something else. That’s why it seems like there are so many miracles here.
This also means that something is more important to you than being safe and secure. If you wanted to be safe and secure all the time, you wouldn’t be (or have been) at Psychic Horizons. You let go of a resistance or a blame, release an old relationship that isn’t working for you any more, heal your invalidation. If you wanted to keep your same patterns, your same beliefs, your same resistances, your same dynamics in how you relate to people, and your same spiritual beliefs, you wouldn’t be here. There’s a lot of change, or a little change, but either way, it can put you into limbo sometimes or even into survival, because your old grounding has come up or is no longer effective. That means you change, you end one way of being and start a new way of being. You are born again.
All of us are looking at safety and security right now.
All of us are looking at safety and security right now. That has become a way bigger issue that it usually is. After talking with someone, many people say “Stay safe”. It’s the new “Goodbye”. It might even light people up when they hear someone say that.
But the more anxious we are, the more we attract anxiety and fear to us. Like attracts like. We need to acknowledge our fear and anxiety, to say hello to it and recognize that our bodies are feeling insecure. But then we can be in communication with our bodies, and release as much fear and anxiety as possible. We need to be vigilant that we don’t let our energy level drop, which causes us to sink into our fear, which then attracts more fear.
A powerful tool that we have is to stay close to our own spirituality in times like these, and to stay grounded in our body. We need to be grounded to the earth, and in communication with the God of our Heart. This can keep us safe and secure.
Major Changes and Challenges
All of us collectively are in the midst of major changes and challenges. For some reason, we have all chosen to be here at this time of challenge. It’s important that we own this situation, that we recognize our choice, and that we don’t allow ourselves to be a victim of our situation.
We are ending life as we knew it, at least temporarily. Endings are called little deaths. A beginning is a chance for us to recreate ourselves in a new way; to consciously be aware of the ending and consciously choose the new creation. We don’t know what that collective beginning will be, but we get to decide what that will be for ourselves. We can realize the freedom of stepping into that nothing and filling it with ourselves, what we decide to be at that very moment.
Many people are already looking at how to create something different. Several people have told me they’ve been looking at how their life has been and have realized that much of their busy-ness was not necessary and not really something they really wanted. So they don’t want to go back to their previous life. Another person said they were afraid of going back to being as busy as they had been before, and did not want that to happen.
One of our neighbors is a chef, so he’s not working at his job, but he’s writing a book instead. A friend of mine has a neighbor who is a friend or relative of the owner of a wholesale fish market, so they have formed a friends’ fish collective, of which we’re a part, and we get fresh fish every week for really good prices. There are a lot of stories about how creative people are being.
A lack of change and challenge can be a death as well
A lack of change and challenge can be a death as well, and we recognize that. So we continue to choose a life of quality over a life of relative safety if that safety means stopping the creation. We cause these endings so that we grow into ourselves, create something that is closer to who we are now. The whole world is doing that now.
We recently had a baptism at our Zoom church service. One of the members of the first Board of Directors of the Church of Natural Grace, a woman named Jo, used to read this passage at every baptism. It is Jesus speaking, from John in the New Testament:
“I tell you the truth, unless a person is born of water and the Spirit, that person cannot enter the Kingdom of God. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to Spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
We are all born of Spirit. Because of that, we have the opportunity to be reborn again at any time.
Through the various changes that we all are experiencing, all of us are being reborn in our own way. This is what happens when there are changes, or an ending, or a completion, even when it may be difficult.
Getting back to your mother, for her, having you begin your life was probably hard for her, because giving birth can be difficult. But you are here as a result, so it was worth it. That’s how it is with change, endings and beginnings, if we allow ourselves to have it.
So take a moment and thank your body for being willing to go through all the uncertainty that change, endings and new beginnings cause. We have a big uncertainty going on now. Thank yourself for your willingness to actually change, to end something, or complete something; to create a void and choose to fill it with more of yourself. This is how you face yourself, and how you validate who you are.
As always, thanks for supporting Psychic Horizons & the Church of Natural Grace with your sustainable giving! It truly makes a difference, both for us and for you.
Best regards,
Rev. Laura Hopper
